Terrapin Hill Farm Trail Map
Red line is border of the farm, other colors desigate trails - see descriptions below.
TERRAPIN WALKING/HIKING TRAILS
All trails start at the Farmhouse. Loops can be done in either direction but the descriptions are given one way for simplicity. The red line outlines the border of the farm, please do not trespass on our neighbors’ property.
CAMPGROUND LOOP (1 mile)
Walk down the driveway towards the farm entrance then turn left at the welcome booth. The gravel road parallels Mackville Rd. for a short distance then turn towards a large hay field. Just before climbing the hill towards the old barn you can take a right and take the West End trail through the woods. Or, continue along the road for a leisurely stroll through the field which eventually takes you across Corn Creek and through the venue area, and then past the pond and back to the farmhouse. Two short inclines but mostly flat and easy walking; mostly gravel.
WEST END TRAIL (.25 miles)
This short trail branches off from the Campground Loop to give you the option to walk through the woods. There is a slight incline at each end of the trail.
ROCK WALL TRAIL (1 mile)
Starting at the Farmhouse you’ll follow the driveway across the pond dam towards the Cashel residence. When you get near the house keep going straight down the valley and towards the end turn left uphill towards the woods. Eventually you’ll see an old rock wall on the right side; these edge walls were made by the Irish around 1800. The trail crosses New Road and continues through the woods into a former horse paddock. When you get to the field head to the left and downhill and you’ll see the break in the trees that will lead you back to the pond dam and towards the Farmhouse. You can always head down the New Road if don’t want to go the whole way. This trail has lots of inclines and is fairly steep when you first get into the woods; except for the driveway part it is a dirt path until you get to the old paddock.
RIDGE TRAIL (1 mile)
This trail starts by following the New Road - just head down the driveway to the right from the Farmhouse and then turn left going across the pond dam, just past that you’ll see a road cut uphill to the left with large gravel. Follow New Road all the way to the top where you will come into a field and look for the dirt road tracks that go off to the left. Follow these tracks to the break in the rock wall where you will see a view of a large part of the farm. The tracks continue down the hill and go through an open gate. Continue forward towards the river and you’ll follow the River Road until you come out to the driveway and take a left back towards the Farmhouse. Partly gravel road, partly dirt tracks; river road can be very muddy if it has recently rained. New Road is fairly steep uphill.
EAST VALLEY ROAD (2 miles out and back)
Go to the right from the farmhouse and take a left through the lower field just before you get to the pond. You’ll have to cross a small creek or two and continue towards the big field. Turn right when you get into the big field and you’ll pass by the Labyrinth on your left and then follow the dirt tracks to the east as far as you want to go. You’ll eventually reach a very large hay field which is bordered by the Chaplin River for almost a mile. You can come back the same way, or when you get to the fallen down barn take a right and walk along the River Road back to the driveway. This trail is fairly level, mostly a dirt track that may be muddy when wet.
CAUTION: some trails can be muddy after rain, wooded trails may have obstacles such as rocks and logs/branches, some trails are under construction; dress appropriately to avoid insects and poison ivy and wear suitable footwear.
Cell phone signals are very poor on most parts of the farm. You can try to call or text if you have any problems, or find us at our residence (labeled on the map).
Restrooms are available, located just up the hill from the pavilion (building with “Potty Barn” sign). Please do not enter any other buildings; stay away from all farm equipment and vehicles. Children must be supervised at all times and dogs must be on a leash at all times. Leave No Trace - take all trash out with you.
